FISPHGAN Outstanding Achievement Award

The FISPGHAN Outstanding Achievement Award is awarded to individuals who have made a major contribution to international paediatric gastroenterology or hepatology or nutrition with respect to clinical care, research, setting or implementing standards, education or training, or strengthening in other ways the field or FISPGHAN as a society. The award recognizes a major achievement or a lifetime accomplishment.

Stefano Guandalini MD

2020 – 2021 The FISPGHAN Outstanding Achievement Award

Dr. Stefano Guandalini is an internationally recognized expert on celiac disease. He is Professor Emeritus, University of Chicago, and the founder of the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center. Dr Guandalini’s clinical and research efforts have greatly influenced the way celiac disease is diagnosed and treated today. His work contributed to the revision of 20-year-old guidelines for celiac disease diagnosis.

Prof. Guandalini served as President of ESPGHAN and also first President of FISPGHAN at the time of the first World Congress in Boston, 2000, which was a remarkable time of congregating major international Societies in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Personal and scientific achievements of Prof. Guandalini are well known and outstanding but his dedication to the Word Congress and creation of FISPGHAN seem to be the major activity that undoubtedly deserves wide recognition.
